COVID-19 Vaccination

Covid-19 Vaccination

Who Has Access to the COVID-19 Vaccine?

Everyone in Australia will have the access to COVID-19 vaccines. The prime minister recently announced that, although there are supply issues, Australia is working hard to ensure we purchase enough of the vaccines. Each vaccine will be approved by Australia’s health regulators.

Australia has already purchased more than 114 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, to be able to effectively deliver the vaccines to everyone in Australia.

Has Each COVID-19 Vaccine Been Approved?

Each vaccine is rigorously tested to meet the standards set up by TGA. You do not have to afraid of vaccination, as it will only be available once proven safe to use by TGA.

Covin-19 vaccines will be available to public and will be available in phases. The Australian government has prioritised groups for vaccination and it is as per the advice from WHO, the World Health Organisation.

The first phase vaccination is for people at high risk. This includes health care workers, aged care and disability care staff, quarantine and border workers and aged and disability care residents.

Once more supplies are available, the vaccines will be rolled out to everyone in Australia throughout this year.

How Many Doses of the Vaccine Do I Need?

To provide the best immunity, you will need two doses of Covid-19 vaccines. It is important to note here, that you are required to get the same type of vaccine the second time. The second jab will help in creating a strong immune response against Covid-19.

In the meantime, continue practising social distancing and proper hygiene. Clinical trials are ongoing but we still don’t know how long the vaccine protection will last, so it’s advisable to practise social distancing where possible and proper hygiene even after having the second dose.

What About the Flu Vaccine?

The current advice is to get your flu shot when it becomes available and usually around April/May is ideal. Please do keep in mind that you will need to have a 14 day gap between your flu vaccine and either one of your COVID-19 vaccines.

Let’s Keep Up the Good Work

We all have practised physical distancing and increased hygiene since the beginning of the pandemic and these have been successful in reducing the spread of the virus. Vaccination is simply the logical next step to protect yourself, your family and the broader community.
